Friday: Another Day, Another Delay.

The briefing the night before said that we were definitely not going this day (heavy sigh). As we get delayed again and again, they need to talk about potential cancellation. Since we can’t leave until at least tomorrow (Saturday), that would leave us only 3 full days on Antarctica instead of the original 6. They are offering $2K travel credit to anyone that still goes on the cruise, but supposedly offers a FULL refund if we decide to cancel, or if National Geographic cancels. There are lots of discussions among the passengers of what to do.
In the mean time, the tour company set us up with an amazing boat tour of the local fiord (The Fiord of Last Hope) to see a couple of glaciers. The boat ride was great, and the view on the way was spectacular.
When we arrived at the first stop, we had a short walk to the glacier. It emptied into a small lake, and was really a stunning view.
Before we left, the crew broke off a piece of the ice flow and created a heart shaped ice cube.
Then we were served a choice of straight whiskey or a local drink - Pisco Sour. Both drinks were iced with the ice from the glacier. That was really cool.
We arrived back at the hotel in time for dinner and the nightly announcement.
It was not good news. Saturday is definitely a no-go and Sunday was not likely. Damn!!
Ultimately, the decision was made to pull the plug and cancel the trip to Antarctica. We will not be able to get there. Very sad.
Michelle spent about 90 minutes on the phone, but she was able to get us flights for the next day to go home.

So sorry you’ve had to cancel the trip to Antartica!! Hope the rest of the experience was worth the trip and you try again soon.
