Obelisco, Famous Pizzería & Family Asado Nights

The national historic monument and icon of Buenos Aires

Osvaldo (Dad’s cousin) took us on the tour to the top of the Obelisco. They just finished building the elevator to the top in November 2025. So it’s a new experience for everyone. It was fun to learn about the history and the pride they have for it since we’ve seen it so much on our trip.

Osvaldo also pointed out a house that was built on top of an office building (see pic below). The story is he came here with nothing, and ended up becoming extremely wealthy. He lived about an hour outside of the city and didn’t want to keep driving back and forth for his siesta (nap) so he built this house on top of his office building. Yes, for just his naps.

Went to this historic pizzeria on the Main Street in Buenos Aires. It was established in 1932 on Av. Corrientes, is renowned for its thick, wood-fired "media masa" pizza and high-traffic, authentic atmosphere. We sat outside with Osvaldo in a structure that reminded me of how restaurants set up seating on streets during Covid. The difference was this one had air conditioning, which was impressive. After lunch we went to see inside. It was WAY larger than expected. It had an area in the front for people to order either to-go or to stand and eat, than you continue through the restaurant to almost 6-7 different sitting areas. The most impressive part is that the first night we saw it, there was a line. Dad and I are still shocked that there could be a line with how much seating there is.

More Postres (desserts) -

Then we walked to get Gelato at Luccianos. They have a few around the city. I got cookies and cream (delicious). Dad got 3 different flavors. Osvaldo’s go to is Dulce de leche.

Classic Asado night with Family -

At around 7pm Dad and I were picked up by Raul & Gustavo (brothers who are Dad’s Cousins). Raul gave us a tour of he’s and Mabel’s beautiful home. Saw the classic “parrilla” (their BBQ) on the rooftop. Tried a tomato from their garden on the roof. There were two sets of cousins that joined us that night. We realized that some people had never met and some hadn’t see each other in like 20 years, even though they all basically live in or near Buenos Aires. We had an incredible night with amazing good, great laughs (even through different languages) and such wonderful memories. They do stay up way later than we are used to still, but it was so worth it!

Tea with Grandmother’s Friends -

The next day we were able to have tea and a late lunch with 3 ladies who my Grandmother (Dad’s Mom) went to Elementary School with and who are 92-93 years young! Dad’s cousin Graciela, who we spent time with before, was nice enough to join us as well. Such a neat experience. Once again most didn’t speak English but we still had a wonderful time.
